My absolute favorite movie on this topic is Voyage of Endurance, a two hour NOVA on Ernest Shackleton. It might be hard to come by. After I first watched it on television, I bought the DVD, which is unusual for me- I am usually way too cheap to do that- but I haven't regretted it. I have watched it three more times over the years and I am mesmerized everytime I watch it. I spend the next few days telling people about it.

Vikings: Beorn the Proud by Madeleine Polland - can't say enough good things about this book. Read it aloud with my 9 and 8 year olds.
