Great for prek-2nd grade)

Horse (by Doyle) - simple, but beautifully illustrated story of a horse who gives birth to a foal.

Horses Trotting! Prancing! Racing! ~ great preschool/kinder book with lots of horse vocabulary - noises, what they eat, taking care of horses, colors, breeds, what they do. Wonderful introduction book!

Circle C Beginning Series - Andi & Taffy - chapter books about a 6 year old girl and her foal; both my 6yo girl and my 4 yo boy enjoyed listening to all these (we used as read-alouds).

Website recommends series for ages 6-8:
